World’s first Michelin-starred ramen restaurant comes to SoMa

Just when you thought the local food scene couldn’t get any better, a new restaurant opens up.  The world’s first Michelin-starred ramen restaurant, Tsuta, is coming to SoMa. Eater SF had a wonderful article announcing the upcoming restaurant which will be located in the nearby Metreon.

From the article:

A ramen restaurant with Michelin Guide bona fides will soon join the never-quite-fully-saturated Bay Area ramen scene. Tsuta, whose original Tokyo location earned a Michelin star in 2016, will open its first US location in the Metreon next month, a project in the works since last summer. The first night of service is October 20, according to a representative for the business.

On opening day, and every day subsequently, the new Tsuta will serve 300 bowls maximum of its ramen: That’s double the number of bowls customers can get per day at Tsuta’s original nine-seat establishment. The Metreon outpost, of course, is also quite a bit larger, with 50 seats across 2,400 square feet.

The Mercury News also covered the much-anticipated opening.

Besides the Shoyu bowl, the restaurant will serve Shio Soba, a chicken-seafood broth with Asari clams, Okinawa sea salt, Mongolian rock salt and white truffle oil, and Miso Soba, with Mame miso from the Tokushima Prefecture and thicker noodles. According to the Tsuta team, there are plans to add a San Francisco-inspired dish to the menu eventually.

With the weather cooling off, the timing couldn’t be better for a nice bowl of warm noodle deliciousness.  Looking forward to some Michelin-starred ramen.
