Get your Green on this St. Patrick’s Day

Spring is right around the corner and you know what that means; St. Patrick’s Day returns to San Francisco.  Whether you attend the 167th Annual San Francisco St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival or just want to share some time with friends celebrating the holiday, here is a helpful short list to SF spots to “Get your Green on” in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

Searching for a relaxing yet fun Irish experience?  Look no further than Kate O’Brien’s on Howard.  Kate O’Brien’s Irish Pub is a cornerstone of the SOMA food scene, catering to sports fans, food enthusiasts and whiskey lovers alike! Patrons will find a laid-back Irish watering hole serving up pub grub, jukebox music, pints of beer & sports on the TV.

Warm up with a delicious Irish Coffee, courtesy of  The Buena Vista. The delicious drink is a San Francisco tradition.  In 1952, Buena Vista owner Jack Koeppler, in collaboration with Pulitzer Prize- winning San Francisco Chronicle columnist, Stanton Deleplane, developed a recipe for Irish Coffee.  Inspired by a drink Mr. Delaplane had enjoyed in a bar at Shannon Airport in Ireland, The Buena Vista introduced to the world its now world-famous Irish Coffee.  Head to The Buena Vista for a warm cup of Irish deliciousness.

Head to local Irish popular hot-spot, The Chieftain, on 5th & Howard.  Patrons can enjoy their famous fish & chips, lamb burger or a tasty bowl of Irish Stew.  They also boast an extensive whiskey and liquor selection along with 21 beers on draft, all set to a background of friend environment and live music weekly.  Try the Shepherd’s Pie + Murphy’s Irish Stout = a winning combination.

In a hurry?  Grab a quick bite, while celebrating the Green at John Campbell’s Irish Bakery. Stop by the bakery for tasty offers of Potato Bread, Irish Crusty Bread, Brown Bread, Sultan Scones, and of course Soda Bread, all made in the very same fashion with the very same ingredients that your parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents might have enjoyed.

Find yourself with a little sweet tooth?  Head to the nearby Ferry Building and partake in some Secret Breakfast Ice Cream deliciousness (made from Bourbon and corn flakes), courtesy of Humphry Slocomb.  Yum!

You can even embrace celebrating the Irish by snapping a selfie at nearby Francis “Lefty” O’Doul Bridge, named after baseball icon and Butchertown (Bay View) District resident Francis O’Doul.

The team at Jasper hopes you have a great St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
