Celebrate the Year of The Tiger

Don your red attire and celebrate the Lunar New Year in a new way this year in San Francisco! 2022 is a year of the Tiger, starting from February 1st, 2022, and ending on January 21st, 2023. The Tiger is known as the king of all beasts in China. The zodiac sign Tiger is a symbol of strength, exorcising evils, and braveness.

Love the Lunar Festival. On January 30th, from 11am to 3pm, ring in the Lunar New Year at The Crossing‘s first annual Lunar New Year Festival and Marketplace, located at the former Temporary Transbay Transit Terminal in East Cut. The event will feature performances from Chinese Lion Dancers, a cooking demo from The Food Network’s Chopped Champion, San Francisco native, and renowned chef, Kathy Fang, a showcase of authentic Chinese products from Chef George Chen’s Chinatown establishment, China Live and a variety of food options from local restaurants, including Little Green Cyclo, Fang Restaurant, and House of Nanking. Miss Global Asia and court will also be in attendance, joining guests in ringing in the Lunar New Year. For more information, please register here.

Lunar Sweets from Socola. The Socola Chocolatier team is back in the shop and working on some cool flavors for the upcoming Lunar New Year. The Year of the Tiger officially kicks off on February 1st. To celebrate the Lunar New Year, snag Socola’s Year of the Tiger Box. This year’s box features the following flavors: Preserved Kumquat, Lapsang Suchong (featuring tea from our friend, Dartealing Lounge), Tamarind Sesame, Jujube Caramel, Candied Ginger Peanut, and Pandan Coconut.

Dip those Dumplings. Dumplings, a staple of Chinese cuisine, are associated with the wealthiness: according to tradition, the more dumplings you eat during the New Year celebrations, the more money you can make in the New Year. Yank Sing has your dim sum and dumplings waiting. “Dumplings here are the true highlight, from plump and fragrant pork xiao long bao, to paper-thin har gao concealing chunks of fresh, sweet shrimp.” – Michelin

Take in the Tigers. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco has brought back the public art project, Tiger on Parade, to its list of festivities this Lunar New Year. Six life-sized Tigers will be publicly displayed around San Francisco, from January 17 – February 19, to help ring in the new year. The Tiger statues spotlight local artists as well as reflect upon the culture, people, and traditions surrounding Chinese New Year.

Spy the Parade. The Chinese New Year Parade will be held on February 19, 2022. Tickets are now available for purchase. The San Francisco Chinese New Year Festival and Parade is truly the largest celebration of its kind in the world.
