Must Attend Events in January

January at Jasper and beyond is overflowing with exciting events! We’ve rounded up some must attend events this month that include a bootcamp, shucking demo, winter cocktails and so much more. Map out your month here: 

This New Year’s Day, strut to SPARK for some much-needed fresh air, bottomless mimosas and sangrias, and 10+ food trucks! January 1 from 11am-5pm. 

Illuminate SF Festival of Light features dozens of dramatic glowing art installations in different neighborhoods with lights festivals, guided tours, and self-guided walks, through January 1. 

See a life-sized Gingerbread House made of thousands of homemade gingerbread bricks and tons of icing and candy in the lobby of the Fairmont San Francisco hotel, through January 1. 

Stop by the lobby of the Westin to admire the St. Francis Holiday Display, featuring two castles with circular towers, individual rooms, and illuminated windows, surrounded by holiday sugar cakes, through January 2. 

Glide along the ice at the Embarcadero Ice Rink through January 3. 

Run a mile around the lagoon at Crissy Field for 6, 12, or 24 hours on January 5 to win cash prizes as you admire views of the Golden Gate Bridge during New Year’s One Day. 

Reboot your fitness routine for 2019 at the Burn, Flow, Vino on January 6! Bootcamp SPARK is teaming up with Orangetheory Fitness and CorePower Yoga to jump-start your heart rate and your “new year, new me” resolution.

Immerse yourself in an illuminated Conservatory of Flowers bursting with vibrant and luminous displays during Night Bloom, through January 6. 

Run through Golden Gate Park and along the ocean on the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K on January 13, which includes snacks along the way and hot chocolate at the finish line.

The most knowledgeable cheese vendors compete at Cheesemonger Invitational, and you get to enjoy fondue, raclette, grilled cheese sandwiches, and a cash bar at The Midway on January 13.

Billed as the world’s largest tasting event for a single varietal, Zinfandel Experience on January 17-19 features hundreds of wines at multiple events, including a Grand Tasting on Saturday at Pier 27.

FOG Design+Art on January 17-20 showcases 40 contemporary design dealers and art galleries and hosts lectures by artists and designers in the Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason.

Head to CUESA and join a demo and Hands-on Oyster Shucking with Joe Larkey of Hog Island Oyster Company on January 19 from 10:30am to 11:15am.

Celebrate the Sea Lions’ Arrival at Pier 39 on January 19-20 with free tours and views of the boisterous barking pinnipeds.

Visit the exhibits at Museum of the African Diaspora on January 21 and enjoy “a day of performance and art inspired by the carnival tradition” to celebrate Martin Luther King Day.

MLK2019 on January 21 includes a march at 11 a.m. from the Caltrain Station to Yerba Buena Gardens, where there is a Health & Wellness Festival all day, an interfaith commemoration, and a music festival.

Get a special deal on a fixed-price lunch or dinner meal during SF Restaurant Week on January 23-31. 

Ring in the New Year and raise a glass to a fair, sustainable, and delicious food future during CUESA’s Cheers to Change Makers: Winter Cocktails of the Farmers Market on January 30. 

The East Cut Fridays brought “Transcendence Art Show” to the neighborhood to celebrate Dan Goldberg‘s art show opening at the Bay Area Metro Center‘s atrium, running through January 31.

Wear cocktail attire to The Speakeasy, a 1920’s watering hole with multiple rooms of bootleggers, bouncers, war veterans, and barflies put on by Boxcar Theatre behind a secret door. The Vaudeville cabaret runs from January 31-March 29.

Cirque du Soleil returns to the San Francisco Bay Area with VOLTA, a captivating voyage of discovery and running through February 3.
