5 Favorite Local Craft Brews

For a city that is roughly a seven-by-seven-mile square, San Francisco is full of craft breweries. Whether you’re partial to an IPA, bitter, or stout, there is a glorious collection of breweries, bars, and tasting rooms to get your hops on. For example, nearby AT&T Park lands in the top 10 ballparks for craft beer lovers in the US! Inspired by the city beer boom, we’re decided to round up our top 5 favorite nearby craft brews. Cheers!

Magnolia Billy Sunday Bitter, Public House/AT&T Park. 0.8 miles from Jasper.
This is another classic interpretation of an English bitter – malt sweetness offset by earthy hops; very drinkable. A best bitter sits just above an ordinary in the bitter family. It’s sometime synonymous with special bitter though the word special is also sometimes reserved for the next level up, just shy of an ESB (extra special bitter).”

Public House features one of the largest draft beer and cask ale offerings in San Francisco, with 24 beers on tap including and three cask ale – 80% of which are local, 24 varieties of bottled beers, plus a full bar. Giants fans can take advantage of the secret entrance into AT&T Park and head straight from Public House into the ballpark.

Hoppy Pillows, Black Hammer Brewing. 0.8 miles from Jasper.
“Like a vacation for your tastebuds, Hoppy Pillows NEIPA brewed with Amarillo and Simcoe, transports you to a serene, sun soaked meadow. An aromatic Meyer lemon nose entices you to explore your wondrous findings further, leading you to a pillowy soft mouthfeel you’ll want to spend a lazy afternoon lavishing yourself in. Bright bursts of citrus on the palate hint at a perfect blend of lemon and Navel orange, encompassed in a creamy foundation that coaxes out the more subdued flavors in one another.”

Black Hammer Brewing’s SoMa tasting room is the perfect place to kick back with friends (and pups) while enjoying one of seven beers on tap from award-winning home brewer Jim Furman and Bryan Hermannsson. Not sure what you like? Try a taster for $4.

Shipwreck Strong Ale, ThirstyBear Brewing Company. 0.9 miles from Jasper.
“Crash into this potent brew featuring a rare batch of dark Admiral malt (Hearth)!”

ThirstyBear house beers include ales, lagers, Belgium inspired beers, seasonal specials and cask conditioned ales. They also feature a full bar and offer select California and Spanish wines. ThirstyBear serves eco-friendly kegged California wines by the glass.

Watermelon Funk Sour Ale, 21st Amendment Brewery. 0.7 miles from Jasper.
We have transformed our summertime watermelon wheat beer into Watermelon Funk, a mind blowing, shake your booty, interlocking sour bass lines with syncopated sweet fruit notes and downbeat aromas and we give you all that in a signature groove with the hip and sway of Lady Liberty.”

The 21st Amendment Brewery offers a variety of award winning house made brews and American grilled cuisine in a comfortable loft like setting. Get a flight to taste, with glasses cleverly served in muffin tins.

Villager India Pale Ale, Fort Point Beer Company/Ferry Building. 1 mile from Jasper.
“In the San Francisco spirit of innovation, Villager blends classic Northwest hops with contemporary ale yeast to establish a delicately constructed IPA. Villager’s hop aroma is both citrusy and floral, complemented by notes of stone fruit and tropical flavor in the finish. A true expression of the cultural contrasts that embody our city by the bay, Villager brings a new twist to this West Coast style.”

Fort Point Beer Company is a New American brewery – the product of a thriving American craft beer culture, shaped by deeply San Franciscan values: quality craftsmanship and a spirit of innovation. The Fort Point Beer Co. taproom is located in San Francisco’s iconic Ferry Building.
