Brazilian Steakhouse Comes to SoMa

In case you missed the announcement in late 2015, Fogo de Chão, is now open for business. Located just 0.5 miles from Jasper, Fogo de Chão (fo-go dèe shoun) is an authentic Brazilian steakhouse where patrons enjoy the delicious preparations by their gaucho chefs along with a gourmet salad bar, authentic Brazilian side dishes and an award-winning wine list.

A little background (courtesy of their Facebook page). The Fogo de Chão dining experience is based on the centuries-old gaucho tradition known as churrasco, the gaucho way of roasting meats over pits of open fire. Operating under the unique service concept of espeto corrido (“continuous service” in Portuguese), Fogo’s Brazilian-trained gaucho chefs present and slice 15 different cuts of meat tableside from roasting skewers. Guests control the pace of the meal by flipping a two-sided disk between green (more food, please) and red (I’m on a break now). With this unique system, patrons can enjoy the experience at their own pace.

The newer addition to the SoMa food scene has garnered a lot of press interested in this type of cuisine. Eater SF had a great introduction piece, 10 Things To Know About Fogo De Chão and SF Weekly showcased the restaurant after their opening in the article, A Brazilian Walks Into Fogo de Chão.

Although they haven’t been open for that long, the yelp reviews are coming in and it looks as if yelpers like the new Brazilian addition to the local foodie scene:

I came here for a soft opening event, and was blown away by the experience. The food was top notch. Everything on the market table was fresh and abundant. All the meats were perfectly cooked not lacking in portions and variety. I was super impressed with the impeccable service. For a brand new restaurant, the staff did not miss a beat. Apparently they bring seasoned staff from various locations to help train the new staff. The price is comparable to most steakhouse but you get so much more in terms of the overall experience. – Mimi T.

Prices: $60 for dinner per person unlimited meat/salad bar. (Honestly? Real good deal) They definitely have great quality meat, and service! (Our server Michael rocked~) The ambiance was just so perfect, it is definitely a place to take your date/ just pig out in a classy way/ have a group dinner. The Chocolate Molten Cake is to DIE for (if you love chocolate like me). – Moto B.
