San Francisco Barbeque Too Good To Miss

Three cheers for barbeque season. When you live in the heart of it all, there’s no need to break out the cooker and slow-smoke your meals; there are a number of excellent barbeque options throughout the city. So get outdoors and enjoy some great Southern Barbeque – San Francisco-style.

We’ve wrangled up 6 places to get some of the best barbeque in the city:

SouthPaw (Mission) Nothing goes better with Southern BBQ than a cold pint of beer and a glass of whiskey. Patrons will appreciate traditional Southern cooking, well-crafted alcohol and house-brewed beer, all in a very social setting. Try the brisket with potato salad and fried pickles. Yes. Fried Pickles.

Hyde Away (Tenderloin) This barbeque hotspot serves up Southern Classics in an intimate environment. Yelper Tino M says: “I must say they have the BEST mac’n cheese EVER hands down!!!! The regular and the lobster Mac not to mention the BBQ ribs and bourbon chicken is soooo good! Oh yeah, ask for their sweet tea!!!”

Baby Blues BBQ (Bernal Heights) With a barbeque style self-described as “Hybrid”, Baby Blues BBQ showcases barbeque samplings from across the nation. From Memphis-style (St. Louis cut) ribs, brisket and pork slow-smoked in Guinness beer, and Mexican Tiger Prawns grilled in New Orleans-style remoulade, they serve up a variety of tastes and flavors sure to please the most discriminating palate.

Memphis Minnie’s (Lower Haight) Dedicated to maintaining and celebrating the time honored American traditions of slow smoked southern style “BarBQue” (slow smoking meats from 4 to 18 hours), Memphis Minnie’s doesn’t disappoint. Try the brisket with collard greens…yum.  Be sure to check out their daily specials as well.

CatHead’s BBQ (SOMA) At CatHead’s BBQ they specialize in keeping regional traditions, recipes, and ideas alive with a fresh twist: Rural Cuisine. Their motto is “Nuthin Fancy!” They just keep it tasty. Yelper Alice H. says: “The perfect combo would be to get ribs main + mac & cheese + potato salad!”

The Rib Whip (SOMA StrEAT Food Park) – The Rib Whip is the FIRST EVER BBQ truck with a smoker installed on-board. They serve amazing southern style BBQ grub to satisfy all your lunch-time and late-night desires. Eric G. on Yelp sums up his barbeque experience quite nicely: “Great people. Great service. Great food. It’s like the soul food I grew up eating. And who doesn’t like BBQ????? If you like BBQ, try this truck. They’ll take care of you.” Tip: Try the Texas Brisket Sandwich w/ 18-hour smoked brisket, house-made pickles, red onions and Texas red sauce. You won’t be sorry.
